Kevin Smith, the creator of movies like Clerks, Dogma, and the upcoming Cop Out, tweeted a series of angry, sarcastic posts on his Twitter feed (@ThatKevinSmith). He was blasting Southwest Airlines for apparently throwing him off an Oakland flight after he was already seated.
According to Smith, the flight attendant was ordered by the captain to tell Kevin that he was a safety risk and that he must get off the flight.
He tweeted in a series of three tweets, “Dear @SouthwestAir, I flew out in one seat, but right after issuing me a standby ticket, Oakland Southwest attendant Suzanne (wouldn’t give last name) told me Captain Leysath deemed me a ‘safety risk’. Again: I’m way fat… But I’m not THERE just yet. But if I am, why wait til my bag is up, and I’m seated WITH ARM RESTS DOWN. In front of a packed plane with a bunch of folks who’d already I.d.ed me as ‘Silent Bob.’”
And Kevin Smith continued with a slew of tweets, his own & responses to those who supported him:
Hey @SouthwestAir! I’ve landed in Burbank. Don’t worry: wall of the plane was opened & I was airlifted out while Richard Simmons supervised.
Last night, the wife ALSO kicked me off for being too wide. And she wasn’t talking about the size of my @SouthwestAir (nee my stupid dick).
Via @chaseronio “Ur the MLK of fatties” I have a Dream. And two lunches (meatball parm & Trix). And a couple of Twinkies. And a Diet Coke.
Via @PaperFishies “sounds like @SouthwestAir has become the Walmart of the commercial airline industry.” WalMart at least carries XXX sizes.
Kevin also recorded a postcast reflecting on the recent event, “Hey @SouthwestAir! I’ve just recorded a Very Special Episode of SModcast – all for you. It goes live tomorrow night. http://www.smodcast.com“
By the time Smith had reported that he landed in Burbank, Southwest Airlines had posted a promise to have a Customer Relations vice-president call him personally.
In my personal opinion, I always feel bad for the people who just do not fit well in plane seats – they need to go somewhere too. I bet everyone would be more comfortable in bigger seats
